The entrance exam of Gunma University

This poem describes the moment of beginning the entrance examination of Gunma University. I had studied so hard until that day to pass the exam. I was in the uncomfortable classroom, and It was too quiet. The last five minutes before the exam starts, I could not find what I should do. I was very nervous an anxious. So, I tried to think about something fun to relax. I imagined the life of English major in university. If I can pass this exam, I can be friends with people in this classroom and learn specific English with them. My heart became light. English leaning sometimes suffers me but sometimes cheers me.

The hard study of English for entrance exam

This poetry deserves the memory of the hardest time in my life. When I was a high school student, I studied English so hard for the entrance exam of Gunma University. I studied English far into the night every day in my quiet room. Every night I read textbooks, work out a lot of English problems, memorize English words. On my desk, there was the pile of worksheets I have to do. I was too exhausted and tired to continue to study that night. It was midnight and I was so sleepy. However, one letter cheered me up. It is from my English teacher. Every time I read this, I was impressed and inspired. Thanks to my English teacher, I could continue to study English.

The experience of extensive reading

This poetry deserves my experience of extensive reading. When I was a freshman in Gunma University, I had an assignment of extensive reading in English course. I was told that I should read ten thousand English words in each week.  I was usually reading books in train. The situation in this poetry is also in train. At first, I did not accustomed to read English books, so it took me a long time to finish reading one book. So, it was a tough assignment for me. However, while I continue to read, I found that books entertained me. They gave a lot of information. In addition, extensive reading was a good training for reading English. So, it was a good experience for me.

I learned some English tongue twisters

This poem describes a so funny memory of my English learning when I was a high school student. l was in English class, my teacher taught us English tongue twisters. “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.” He could say it very fluently. Although I tried to say this tongue twisters many times, I could not say smoothly. However, I heard cheerful laugh from many places of the classroom. Not only I but also almost all students in the class enjoyed English tongue twisters. This activity did not have relation to texts, but I felt that English was very fun.

Description of poems 1~6

The first memory of English learning in the English conversation school

The first poetry describes the first memory of English learning in the English conversation school. When I was a fourth grades student, I started to learn English in the English conversation school. At that time, I was not familiar with English, so I was anxious and didn’t want to enter the classroom for the first time. My teacher called me, and I entered the classroom with her. In the room, there were many interesting things. I felt a little excitement. I sang some English songs, played games, and drew a picture. I enjoyed them very much. That day, I found English is very fun.

The experience of the speech contest

When I was a junior high school student, my teacher said to me “Why don’t you take part in the speech contest?” I was very surprised. I thought why I was selected. However, I thought this opportunity would be good experience for me to speak English. So, I decided to join the speech contest. But I had not experienced such big speech contest. I practiced many times with my English teacher. She always helped me speaking English fluently and my friends cheered me up, so I felt big presser and nervous. Through this experience, I think that I can gain confidence in my English skill.

I was in trouble understanding complicated sentence.

This poem describes a moment when I tried to read and understand complicated sentence. This is one of the most tough experiences in my English learning. In my silent room in the night, I was reading a same sentence many times. In junior high school, students usually learn simple and easy English sentences. So, I could understand almost all the meaning of English sentences in a textbook. However, when I entered high school, and became older and older grade, English sentences in a textbook became more and more complicated. It was hard for me, and I wanted to give up.

The first English class in Gunma University

This poem describes my memory of the first English class in Gunma University. It was my first experience of all English lesson. When I entered the classroom, I was a little nervous. I had known that my new English teacher in that lesson was a foreigner, and the lesson was high level class. So, I wondered if I can understand what the teacher says and keep up with the lesson. However, when he entered the classroom and started talking, my feeling changed. He started tlking with a broad grin. He introduced himself, his hobby and explained about this course. His joke and smile made me relief.

Singing English songs before the class.

In my junior high school, My English teacher used English songs in her class. Before the class started, she prepared a CD player and played a piece of music each day. My teacher brought many kinds of music to her class. Some of them were rock music, others were pop music. Every day l enjoyed listening to the music, and sometimes singing. When I could sing a part of the music, I became happy because I felt as if l could speak English fluently like native. Every day, this feeling raised and kept my motivation. At that time, I was looking forward to studying English.

I got full scores in the English expression test.

This is a surprising experience in high school. I was an eleventh grades student. I was waiting for my test returned in a classroom. I had studied so hard for the English test, I had a little confidence. However, just before my test was returned, I lost it, and I became very nervous. This poem describes my feeling at that time. When I received my test, I cannot believe my score because I had not gotten full score in English test in high school. From this experience, Ithought I want to continue studying English from now on too.

Singing English songs before the class.

Before the English class.

My English teacher is preparing a music player.

I’m waiting while being excited.

“Ok. Let’s start.”

Today’s music starts.

Some students are singing, others are reading the lyric silently.

I’m singing with a small voice.

When l can sing a part of the song, l feel like I can speak English fluently.

I’m looking forward next time.

The first memory of English learning in the English conversation school

Big table and a white board in front of me.

Some funny pictures and a CD player around me.

Feeling of hope mixed with fear in my heart.

Delightful and exciting feelings for English in my heart.

I got full scores in the English expression test

I’m waiting for my name called.

Our English teacher is calling students’ names and returning the tests to students.

“I’m OK. I have studied very hard.”

I did my best for this test… maybe.

I cannot have confidence for what I have done for this test.

The experience of the speech contest

Again and again, I read my draft.

There are many people.

I sit still quietly.

But my heart is beating loudly.

My name is called.

Walking to the stage with my trembling hands.

Nothing is in my head.

But anxiety.

I was in trouble understanding complicated sentence.

In my quiet room.

I cannot understand. What does this mean?

I read this complicated sentence again.

How many times did I read this?

I have read the same sentence again and again. But…

I cannot understand. I cannot see the goal.

My feeling becomes darker and darker.

How long will it take me to finish reading this text book…
